We had wonderful weather for a huge game of golf (thankfully) we had to play 36 holes (Div 1 players) and 27 holes (Div 2 players). Even though it was exhausting in the unaccustomed heat it was better than being wet and miserable.

F-Troop - Monday 27th September 2010
We were somewhat restricted with what we could do out on the course today because we had a big vets day in progress. We did manage to find more than enough jobs today and fortunately we had some extra volunteers which helped us a lot.
We welcomed Steve McGuckin to his first day as an F-Trooper and we also welcomed back Garry Trigg from his extended overseas trip. Those I saw today were Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Martin Gallagher, Peter Murphy, Des Wilson, Peter Martin, Steve McGuckin, Garry Trigg, Kerry Cubis, Georgina Lamb & Di Beechey.
Duncan, Geoff, Martin & Peter Murphy spent the morning removing a Camphor Laurel and a dead pine tree from the back of the 10th green. This was not an easy task as the trees were quite large.
Peter Martin, Kerry Cubis, Steve McGuckin & Garry Trigg cleared a drain at the 6th and raked & tidied around the 4th to the 6th fairways including timber & rubbish pickup around the course.
Georgina Lamb, Di Beechey & myself concentrated on the front area of the club & spent all morning tidying, raking, fertilizing, watering, weeding in the area front of the club to the wedding garden and included part clean up of the car park & BBQ garden area, cleaning the front entrance to the clubhouse. It was frustrating work as the leaves were falling down faster than we could clean them up.
Des Wilson was on Pro Shop duty & took care of business there.
It was another successful day for F-Troop even though all the work we did was not too apparent to the eye. We did have some nice compliments from visitors playing on our course today.
Morning tea was supplied by our club chef John & was enjoyed by everyone. Fruit Pastries fresh from the oven went over well. Thanks John!
YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me Garry Frewin & Garry Wilkinson both had 4 pointers on the 8th; Vicki Foster's highlight was her 2nd shot at the 13th bunker where she hit the flagpole & fll close to the hole & saved the shot that would have been in the next fairway; Lynn Puiatti had 4/4 at the 1st; Ron Puiatti had a nice par on the 4th after a great drive down the hill and had a birdie on the 18th; George Foster's highlight was getting 22 on the back 9 and beating the girls for the keno ticket; Kerry Cubis had 3/4 on the 4th; Elly Van Den Berg had three 4 pointers; Rae Brown had two 4 pointers in a row and had 5/3 at the 17th with a chip out of the bunker; Des Wilson had a birdie at the 18th; Neville Walker had 4/4 at the 6th; Jan Walker had 4/4 at the 15th, 3/4 at the 8th, and 5/4 at the 2nd; Dick Bosley had his best score ever with 44 points including a 30 foot putt at the 7th, two wipes and a one pointer; Di Thomlinson had birdies at the 1st and the 15th; Mark Douglas had birdies at the 10th, 16th and the 1st; Rosalie Dyer had 4/4 at the 9th; Sheena Asken's highlight was that she contributed to the team; Yvonne Wilson's highlight was no wipes; Lorraine Bignall drove well and had two 4 pointers; Christine Drakeford had a 4 pointer on the 16th and had six 3 pointers in a row; Georgina Lamb narrowly missed a birdie at the 5th and won nearest the pin; Julie Hazzard had a nice steady game; Doreen Vines had 4/4 at the 3rd hole; Leonie Casey played consistent golf & had a birdie at the 14th hole with 39 cms and won nearest the pin; Dave Flanigan lost $1 to Stimmo; Mark Stimpson had four birdies including an almost hole in one at the 8th and a sandy into the hole (Slam Dunk!) at the 17th; Anne Stimpson had 3/4 at the 12th; 4/3 at the 8th and 4/3 at the 5th; my highlight was scoring 4/2 on the 8th after driving through the green into the back bunker, out of the bunker and back off the green at the front, an ordinary shot back to the green and sinking the putt in one.
We all had a fabulous day in great weather. Our partners over the series were Mark & Anne Stimpson & they were great company as usual. The course is playing really well as you can tell by the scores and it is going to get better in coming weeks with it being in the best condition that many of us can remember for quite a long time. The Club Championships, Club Mixed Foursomes and the Pro Am are upcoming events in the next few weeks and I expect that our course will be in peak condition for that.
Congratulations to all the winners today and to everyone that took part in this event.
Special thanks and appreciation must go to Maggie Minjoy and Di Beechey for their dedication in administrating & recording the results for this event as it is a very time consuming & demanding
responsibility. THANKS MAGGIE & DI!
