We had another lovely day at Byron Bay - started the day with a walk to the Byron Bay Lighthouse & finished with a massage at the spa resort (as one does). The weather has closed in again late this afternoon and I understand that it has been raining again at Gosford which today's results indicate.

The Golf Event of the day at Gosford was a Men's Single Stableford + Teams Event.

We had 48 starters with 3 visitors from Moore Park, Morisset and Terrigal.

We have had lovely weather at Byron Bay (for one day) and I have been working hard on my sun tan.

At Gosford the Golf Event of the day was a Ladies Single Stableford - Over the Field - Summer Competition.

We had 53 starters with visitors from Corowa & Muswelbrook.

F-Troop Monday 30th January 2012

Good news from Byron Bay - the weather has improved to "not raining".

F-Troop worked through some sticky hot weather today to achieve some good work around the course.

Our volunteers today were Geoff Bridge, Garry Trigg, Warren Gray, Bruce White, Rob Benson, Richard Casey, Nigel Asken, Sheena Asken, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Georgina Lamb. Martin Gallagher was there early to get the troops started & then was called into work leaving Geoff as chief supervisor for the day.

Some of the work done today was cleaning out of the bullrushes from the mouth of the 3rd dam.

Di Beechey, Anne Burgess & Georgina Lamb cleaned up around the car park and top gardens.

Geoff, Rob & Richard got the old vacuum cleaner humming around the Pro Shop including repairing the tyre so the work could get started.

Warren. Bruce and some of the boys cleaned up the loose timber & rubbish from around the course.

Nigel & Sheena continued with their work of removing crabgrass from the 1st & 2nd fairways.

I believe that the temperature got to the mid 30's today - so WELL DONE! to the F-Troopers.

I have no good "fishing"stories for you from Byron Bay however the girls had a great day visiting Lennox Heads and Nimbin. (Don't you just love the "business hours"sign.)

Golf - Thursday 26th January 2012 - Australia Day

I was sorry to hear that the competition golf was cancelled today at Gosford because it was too wet.

We were lucky enough to have a fine day here at Byron Bay - a little overcast but no rain which let us have a nice relaxing Australia Day. We an Australiana lunch of pies, mashy peas and mash followed by lamingtons for dessert. A walk on the beach and some R& R in the afternoon resting and watching the cricket was required to prepare us for a baked lamb dinner tonight.

Our babies left Byron Bay before lunch to head home to the Central Coast but were cut off at Coffs Harbour with flood waters so they are returning for another two days staying in the cabin next door to us as we have our other son & his wife staying with us until the weekend

HOW GOOD CAN IT GET!

The weather at Byron Bay has been relentless - trying to keep two tiny children amused in pouring rain has been a challenge. Thank heavens we have not been wanting to play golf.

I understand that the fields have been slow at Gosford due to rainy weather however I see that the good results continue to come in so the course must be coping with the wet.

F-Troop - Monday 23rd January 2012

Hello from Byron Bay!

While we have gone fishin' the F-Troopers have carried on regardless doing a fantastic job today getting through many necessary tasks.

We had on duty Martin Gallagher, Geoff Bridge, Warren Gray, Rob Benson, Richard Casey, Bruce White,Di Beechey, Anne Burgess, Georgina Lamb, Nigel Asken and Sheens Asken.

Everyone contributed well around the course - getting the Bunya Pines mess cleaned up at the 16th and 17th fairways, camphor Laurels cut back at the 13th, practice area at the 1st cleaned up, gardens at the front of the club tidied up, cleaned out the drain in the side park as well as general clean up.

Nigel & Sheena Asken contributed some time cleaning out some of the dreaded crab grass at the 1st.

Morning tea was very much appreciated by the troopers and I was told it was some beautiful date slice with lemon icing and coconut. (I hated missing out on that). Thanks to our kitchen staff for their continuing support to F-Troop.

Many thanks to a local landscaper who was kind enough to donate some pre-loved timber to us for use for repairing path and garden edges

Our timber supplies are building up and are ready for delivery so everyone should get your orders in now to get the pick of the pile.

We have had two days of rain storms at Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay and the highway was not a pleasant experience.

The rain on the Central Coast has been nothing compared to what has fallen here in the last few days.

Hope to have some good fish stories to add to the reports this week.

F-Troop - Monday 16th January 2012

We had an outstanding day at F-Troop today. Considering it rained on and off all morning we achieved great things.

We had 10 volunteers prepared to work through bad weather and we managed to accomplish far more than I thought we would. There were very heavy showers at times when we thought we would have to call it a day.
Fortunately none of us are made of sugar and the work was done.

We had Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher, Geoff Bridge, Rob Benson, Peter Martin, Bruce White, Des Wilson, George Foster, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin.

Duncan Dyer, George Foster and Des Wilson took on the building of the storage area security gates which is a huge task. They worked hard all morning and managed to get the framework completed & up.

Peter Martin, Geoff Bridge, Martin Gallagher, Rob Benson, Bruce White, Anne Burgess worked with me at the 16th and we managed to get the "Lavender Way" garden completed against all the odds. The soil was cleared of weed and turned over for aeration, the garden edges were measured and put in place with great accuracy. After morning tea Peter, Geoff, Martin & Anne helped me to plant out all of the lavender plants into the garden. I was very impressed with the effort they put in to get this garden finished today.
Well done Troopers!
Phase 1 of "Lavender Way" is now complete.
The gardens at the 16th "soften" the stark look of the path & tee and will look and smell beautiful when they burst into flower.

Morning tea was very much appreciated as we had worked ourselves almost to a standstill. We enjoyed fruit pastries from the Club Kitchen - Thank you Andrew!

We planted out some more Mondo Grass at the wedding garden that was donated by Martin Gallagher.
Martin also repaired the hedge plant at the 18th parking area that had been accidentally broken during the week. I have noted another broken hedge plant at the front steps caused by some careless "big foot".

The course was very wet from continuing rain - not good for golf but good for planting out new plants.

We had some good news today that The CENTRAL COAST LEAGUES CLUB GOLF CLUB have donated $100 to F-Troop in appreciation for the work that we do on the course. That is just fantastic!
Thank you so much for your support. Thank you also to the continued donations arriving in our donation box at the Pro Shop. With the sale of some of our Timber this week and the cash donations we have received thus far we can make a start on purchasing some plants for the new garden at the 1st and 10th tee.

We hope all the Members and Players on our course continue to enjoy the improvements that we make.

The weather played havoc with our playing numbers today having some heavy rain overnight and more showers this morning. There were no carts allowed which would also restrict a lot of would be players.

I was not unhappy with the weather as I wanted to plant out some lavender plants so it was perfect for me.
"Lavender Way" is work in progress between the 15th and 16th. It is slow progress as the soil is solidly packed after being a main thoroughfare for years and has a lot of clay content.

Another lovely day for golf and there were a lot of players out on the course.

I played 9 holes of social golf and my playing partners were Rosalie Dyer, Kath Payn, Mary Ellis and Chris Cayley ( a new member to be). We had a very nice morning with some good 3 pointers being scored here and there.

The Golf Event of the day was a Ladies Single Par - Over the Field - Summer Competition.

We had 47 starters.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Maggie Minjoy had Plus 7 with some good putting and steady play on the fairways and including 5 a plus par on the 18th; Rosie Judd parred the 1st and the 6th; Annette Dunk had four pluses on the back 9; Marianne Lanham had a very nice day with good company; Sue Hutton chipped in on the 9th; Norma Cubis had 3/3 on the 14th with an OOB shot that hit a tree and rebounded back into the fairway (Hi to Philly currently on holidays); Lorraine Linnert enjoyed her day, my highlight was a good drive to the 8th for a 3 pointer.

F-Troop - Monday 9th January 2012

We had a fantastic day at F-Troop this morning with good inroads made in our major projects (the new storage area and the Lavender garden at the 16th) as well as doing a good clean up around the course
and creating a new garden at the 17th.

This was possible because we had 17 volunteers to share the load - Martin Gallagher, Nigel Asken, Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Rob Benson, Richard Casey, Des Wilson, Peter Martin,Warren Gray, Bruce White, Garry Trigg, George Foster, Dianne Beechey, Anne Burgess, Georgina Lamb, Jan Walker and Jan Martin.

That made a huge difference as we could still do much needed clean up work around the course as well as our other projects.

Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher, Des Wilson & George Foster worked on the F-Troop storage area which is coming on very nicely. The roof was completed and the security wire put in place with some good welding work by George Foster.

Warren Gray & Nigel Asken teamed up for course clean up with Peter Martin and Garry Trigg. This was a daunting task after all the wild wind of the last week bringing down a lot of loose timber and bark.

Geoff Bridge (on tractor duty), Rob Benson, Richard Casey and Bruce White were on hole digging duty. Firstly digging three holes along camellia way for some new camellias and then started on the "Lavender" garden at the 16th. They worked all morning on this difficult task that took until lunch time to complete.

One of the prizes for winning "The Best Commercial Garden" in the Gosford Shire last year was a $100 gift voucher from Kincumber Sand and Soil which we have used to purchase some high grade garden soil for our gardens. This arrived this morning so we could get started on the garden work.

Georgina Lamb and Jan Walker took on the mammoth task of cleaning up at the 1st and 10th tees. They did a brilliant job as this area was a complete mess with loose branches and bark from the many trees.

Di Beechey and Anne Burgess cleaned up at the BBQ garden and then created a new garden at the 17th with succulents that had been donated to the club. They did a great job and included building in a drainage system for the garden. It looks much better than the dreary little area that it was. We are now hoping that the plants do not become "rabbit food". The cost to the club for this garden was zero as all plants and garden supplies were donated.

We also managed to plant out two new mandevillea plants at the 18th to replace the two mandevilleas that were destroyed when the electricity lines were put through. These new plants were funded by a donation from Doon Jansen via monies raised at Doon's Art Show. Also from Doon's donation we purchased another Mandevillea "Swan Lake" which we have planted at the new garden at the 1st and 10th tees. The plant support for this plant was donated by Anne Burgess. These plants will look lovely when they reach maturity.

Martin Gallagher cleaned out his garden at home and donated (via his partner Clare) two mature camellias. an azalea, a gardenia and a box hedge plant. These have all been planted out - a new home for the azalea and gardenia was the garden behind the putting green and the box hedge was added to the existing hedge plants at the wedding garden.

I was very unhappy to find that two of our hedge plants of the left hand side path at the 10th tee were pulled out of the garden and left to die. We managed to replant them hopefully without too much shock to the plant. There was also substantial damage done to one of our streletzia plants at the front fence line. We can only assume that vandals have done the damage - very disappointing but hopefully the plants will recover.

We are very appreciative to the players and members who have seen fit to drop some money into our donation box at the Pro Shop. Donations no matter how small will be well spent on our garden projects.

Morning tea this morning was very busy with 17 F-Troopers lined up to enjoy refreshments of mini muffins from the kitchen - thanks Anthony & the boys! (Chef John is on Annual Leave)

After morning tea we worked on with digging the holes at the 16th and planting out the newly donated plants.
It was a very busy morning but very rewarding as we did achieve some good work for the club.

We had a great day for golf - there was a bit of humidity out there but not too bad.

Our playing partners were Duncan & Rosalie Dyer and we had a lovely day on the village green. They were great company and we had some good highlights along the way - the boys beating the girls for the Keno Ticket was not among them. Peter played really well and won the Men's singles with a fine score of 41 points with Duncan not too far behind on 38 points so the boys deserved the Keno Ticket.

The Golf Event of the day was a Single Stableford for Men and Ladies + Team 1 X 2 X 3.

We had 76 starters with one visitor from Mangrove Mountain.

ANDREW POTTER played in the JACK NEWTON WEEK OF GOLF in Sydney this last week. The golf was played over four different courses - Castle Hill, Avondale, Killara and Pennant Hills.

Andrew won the Under 17 age group in net and he finished net par over the 4 rounds.

F-Troop - Monday 2nd January 2012

If you think that our volunteer F-Troopers do a fantastic job

giving TLC to our course then here is the place to show your

appreciation.

All donations received go towards the beautification of the course.

Today being a public holiday was not enough to keep our F-Troopers off duty. Some (of course) have been tied up with family commitments but those that could come did.

We had Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher, Peter Martin, Bruce White, Sam Knox, Ron Beechey, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess, Georgina Lamb, Jan Walker and Jan Martin.

We managed to get a lot of good tasks done with limited helpers. We were unable to access the tractor to complete the garden preparation at the 16th so in lieu of that we concentrated on the F-Troop Storage area, the Spike Bar Storage Room, the 1st and 10th tees and underneath the clubhouse, BBQ area and the car parks.

Duncan Dyer & Martin Gallagher got some good work done at the F-Troop storage area managing to get part of the roof completed.

Sam Knox put in a good morning's work at the wood pile splitting wood for our firewood sales & then had the job of cleaning down the red carpet for the wedding garden.

Peter Martin, Bruce White & Ron Beechey cleaned out the Spike Bar Storage Room with Di Beechey & Anne Burgess.

That was a job and a half and was much needed. The room looks so good now that all the unnecessary storage has been removed.

Di Beechey & Anne Burgess arrived early & cleaned up the BBQ area, car parks & front entrance before starting on the Spike Bar area.

Georgina Lamb helped me to tidy up at the 1st & 10th tees and tidy up the climbing plants at the 10th tee. Georgina washed down the area underneath the clubhouse which was very untidy with all the holiday traffic.

Jan Walker weeded some gardens around the wedding garden and putting green & then helped us at the 1st & 10th tees.

The club was closed today being a Public Holiday so we improvised morning tea with Tea/coffees and biscuits from the Pro Shop. It was very welcome as we had all put in a good morning's work.

After morning tea we worked on with cleaning underneath the clubhouse, weeding the front lawn area, cleaning the water feature at the 1st, watering the gardens & filling the bird bath at the wedding garden, spraying the olive trees for disease, put up a plant support at the bubbler garden, removed the Christmas lights from outside the Pro Shop and fixed a broken tap.

Saturday 31st December 2011 - New Year's Eve

I hope all our keen golfers have been taking advantage of the Social Days of Golf this week. I believe the course has been packed every day which is great news. A few showers here and there but not too bad.

The end of the holiday season is looming and we will be back to our normal competitions where I will continue with reporting the results. The Ladies Summer competition will also resume.

There were a few Gosford Golfers familiar faces at the Gosford Sailing Club celebrating New Year's Eve ( in lieu of no event at the Gosford Golf Club). The weather was perfect for a waterfront advantage point for the fireworks display and a good time was had by all.

2012 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for golf. The course is in great condition and improving all the time.
We are looking forward to some great Competition Events where we can all strive to get a mention.

We had a magic day for golf today and the course was buzzing with golfers enjoying perfect sunny weather.

The Clubhouse is open for business and all is getting back to normal leading up to the new year.

Golf - Tuesday 27th December 2011 - Social Golf

It was a very pleasant golf day for all our social players today. A bit of wind, no rain and not too hot so our course was full of keen golfers all day which was good to see.

While the Clubhouse has been closed for the Public Holidays F-Troopers have been painting the walls of the Magnolia Room and the Sunset Room. For the past two days F-Troopers Peter Martin, Di Beechey, Ron Beechey, Mark Stimpson & Jan Martin have contributed a lot of hours to this project which is nearing completion. We hope all the Members and guests enjoy and appreciate the new colour schemes introduced.

We had some new plants donated to F-Troop by Brian & Lesley Gregory & they were planted out today - Daisies for the 17th garden; Gazanias for the 13th garden and Red Salvia for the 4th garden. They will all contribute some nice colour to our gardens.

Golf - Saturday 24th December 2011 - Social Golf

Unsettled weather again today but it ended up quite a nice hot day in the afternoon so the golfers were out on the village green.

Graeme Wright is celebrating his 60th birthday this week and made it memorable by scoring an albatross on the Par 5 10th hole today. Graeme was using borrowed clubs and only needed two of them to reach the 10th hole. A great drive followed by a 3 wood into the hole. That is how to do it!

CONGRATULATIONS WRIGHTY!

There was no formal competition played today with some of the Members participating in a private ball competition. I understand that a good time was had by all.

Golf - Friday 23rd December 2011 - Children's Christmas Party

We had a rather strange day of weather today - but very little rain at the Gosford Golf Course which meant the golfers were right for their rounds of Social Golf. There was no formal competition today so that visitors and non-members could enjoy the course over the holidays. The weather was ominous during the afternoon with some loud claps of thunder but nothing eventuated from it and the day was quite warm.

The Clubhouse was a lively place tonight with the Children's Christmas party commencing about 5 o'clock and Santa arriving around 6 o'clock to give the children their presents. We had quite a few little ones there & they enjoyed the games and Christmas gifts.

Later we had the usual meat raffles and Member Draw which is always well supported by the Members.

Additional celebrations tonight were:

Graeme Wright celebrated his 60th birthday at the club with his daughter Cilla and a group of their friends.
Congratulations Wrighty! Well Done!

Louise Stimpson was congratulated on her recent "Molly" Award. Louise is a keen participant Post Options group where she takes part in the Annual Concert for which she received her award.. Well done Louise!

Jim & Jan Hackett (Lyn Puiatti's parents) from Victoria celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary for which they had received a congratulations card from Queen Elizabeth II. (photo attached). Well Done Jim & Jan!

I understand that Kay Adams has celebrated her 60th birthday this week. Congratulations Kay!

Christmas Day is nearly upon us and the rain is back. There was no competition golf but we did have some social players out there braving the weather. The girls got most of their golf played before the rain set in but a lot of people did get wet which was a shame.

The club is open for Social Golf over the Christmas Holidays and it will be a shame if the players are kept off due to wet weather. The course is in great condition & the wet weather does not upset the fairways so we need a break in the weather to bring out all the social golfers.

F TROOP 2011 CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON

We had a top day at F-Troop today. We managed to get most of our chores done before heavy rain set in.

We had 14 starters which is great for Christmas Week and all of our clean up tasks were completed.

On hand we had Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge,Martin Gallagher, Peter Martin, Richard Casey, Rob Benson, Warren Gray, George Foster, Garry Trigg, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess, Georgina Lamb, Jan Walker & Jan Martin. This allowed us to get all the important tees cleaned up before the Christmas break.

Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Warren Gray & George Foster took down a couple of Camphor Laurel trees encroaching on the storage area & started on the framework for the storage area.

Richard Casey, Rob Benson, Peter Martin & John Coddington picked up another two loads loads of mulch and placed it at the 17th garden.

Peter Martin, John Coddington, Rob Benson, Warren Gray & Richard Casey did a big pick up of loose timber & rubbish around the course and a clean up on the 7th tee which looks much better now.

Di Beechey & Anne Burgess cleaned up the car park & around the BBQ area before mulching at the 14th round-about-garden, cleaning up the 3rd and 5th tees, the 7th tee and Camellia Way.

Jan Walker weeded and cleaned up the gardens at the front of the club.

Garry Trigg did some hedging at the 12th and the 2nd including the large abelias before helping the other F-Troopers at the 7th.

Georgina Lamb helped me to clean up at the 2nd tee gardens and then we cleaned up the garden & the 18th tee.

Prior to this I had sprayed our olive trees at the 15th as they have been attacked by a blight of some sort (pity about the rain later in the day) & marked out the area at the 16th for the garden at "Lavender Way"

Geoff Bridge, Martin Gallagher, Richard Casey, Rob Benson, Garry Trigg and Peter Martin started to prepare the garden at the 16th which will become the "Lavender Way"

We had a very productive morning which we managed to complete without getting too wet.

Morning tea of fruit & nut loaf and fruit pastries was greatly appreciated by all as we had worked up a hunger by then. Thanks Chef John!

In acknowledgement of F-Troop's efforts on the course this year the Golf Club Board invited all F-Troopers and partners for a Christmas Luncheon in the Magnolia Room at 12.30pm. 33 F-Troopers & partners were able to accept & we had a lovely afternoon enjoying a traditional Christmas Lunch & drinks in the Magnolia Room. Club President Ron Puiatti & his wife Lynn were present to represent the Board & Ron extended his thanks & appreciation to all the F-Troopers for their contributions this year.

Martin Gallagher presented each F-Trooper with a group photo taken on F-Trooper Geoff Bridge's 80th birthday celebrated at F-Troop morning tea last month.

2011 has been an exceptional year for F-Troop as we achieved many major projects throughout the year and in addition won the "Best Commercial Garden" in the Gosford District for the 2nd year. Some good regular rainfall has been very beneficial for the gardens but the TLC from the F-Troopers has really made the difference between an ordinary garden and an outstanding garden..

What a great day for golf today - perfect weather with not even a sprinkle of rain to upset our day on the village green. Our playing partners were Wally & Rhonda Robertson & we had just the best day having some great highlights between us. Not enough to win any trophies but a very enjoyable day. We had some birdie chances and some well earned pars with Wally getting the ball right out there when it mattered.

The Golf Event of the day was a 2 Ball Team + Single Stableford Mixed Men and Ladies.

We had 89 starters with 9 visitors from Branxton, Muree, Oatlands, Pymble, Terrigal & Wyong.

Christmas is rushing up fast now and this was the last of the Ham Trophy Days which is always a popular event.

Chris Ashworth is leaving the district to live at Meldura and this was his last day at Gosford. Graeme Wright gave a presentation to Chris after golf tonight and we hope to see Chris back here as a visitor regularly.

Later in the day we had a 9 hole Ambrose Shotgun - 4 pm start which is becoming a popular event for Members leading up to the Friday Night Badge Draw & Raffle night.

Following the 9 Hole Ambrose Event there was another Members & guests Evening outside under the Clubhouse for the Member's draw & raffle night which is proving to be very popular with the Members in the balmy summer months. We had a Chicken/Ham & Salad Buffet Dinner with Fruit platter for dessert for $10 per head which again was popular with the Members. The Christmas Lights together with the Christmas Tree added some atmosphere to the evening.

The Club was booked out with Christmas Events which is good for the club coffers and the Members are happy to have their evening outside which fortunately has not been spoilt with bad weather.

I was unfortunately unable to attend this evening to take photos as I had a better offer to attend the prestigious "Molly" Awards held by All Access Arts at the "Breakers" Country Club at Wamberal. Louise Stimpson was one of the stars who received an award. This was an important evening not to be missed. As most of you would be aware Louise is the daughter of Mark & Anne Stimpson who are long time Members and supporters of the Gosford club, and Louise is a keen participant in All Access Arts.

It is great to see our regular Member's supporting our events. This creates great club spirit and encouragement to our hard working staff and Directors who are trying to get it right for us.

I was out on the course today with F-Trooper Di Beechey maintaining some of the course gardens. The course was in remarkable condition considering all the deluge of rain that we had. The course was very playable and we had very little in the way of rain to upset any of the players which is indicated by today's scores.

Golf - Monday 12th December 2011 - F- Troop

What an unfortunate day for F-Troopers and our Vets Golfers.

The heavens opened overnight (big time) giving us flash flooding across the coast and the golf course was no exception. Early this morning the 18th and across the 11th was covered in water like a big lake and the 5th
fairway hardly existed. I traveled past later in the day after a lot of the water would have drained away and there was still a huge amount of water right across to the creek which had swollen with the high tide.

This kind of weather is financially crippling.

We were due to have 170 odd vet players on the course today and it was unfortunate that the course had to be closed.

F-Troop was put on hold for obvious reasons and all our volunteers had a day off.

Better luck next week!

Today was Round 3 of the MIXED TEAM SERIES - SPONSORED BY: MAZDA

This Event is well supported by the Members and is one of our most popular events.

The weather was kind, allowing us to get our matches played with just a few showers and some threatening thunder storms which did not eventuate into anything.

Our playing partners were Mark Stimpson & Michelle McGrath - our Team for the Mixed Team Series.
We had a great day with Mark scoring three birdies and Michelle scoring four birdies along with a lot of great golf shots to admire. We left our run a bit late but came in with a respectable total of 306 for the series with no help from me.

Golf - Friday 9th December 2011

As predicted it was a very busy day for the Gosford Golfers and the Gosford Golf Club.

Fortunately the weather behaved itself and we had a nice day for all the Golf Events and the Functions to be held at the club.

The Daily Event was well attended with 86 starters.

The wake for Robbie Brann was also well attended (as expected) with many Members (old & new) paying their last respects to Robbie at Palmdale in the morning and followed with a wake in the Magnolia Room at the Golf Club in the afternoon. We gave Robbie a good send off and he will be remembered for many years to come as a well respected and much loved Member. Robbie devoted many, many years to the Club & this will never be forgotten.

The 2 Ball Ambrose 4.00 pm shotgun start was also well supported by our Members. It was lovely playing in the late afternoon when the course is looking so beautiful. This Golf Event led up to the Raffles and Badge Draw. My playing partner was Col Matterson & we played with Jan & Elly Van Den Berg which was a lot of fun.

This Evening the Raffles and Badge Draw was held under cover outside the Pro Shop area which was a big hit with the Members and Guests that attended. There were Ham/Pork/Christmas gifts as the raffle prizes which were popular with the winners. Congratulations & thanks to Di Beechey and Col Adams for the presentation of the table settings and Christmas lights that added atmosphere to the evening.

For a minimal cost of $10 per head a BBQ Buffet was served which was appreciated by everyone attending.

The "Christmas Tree" girls made another appearance - this time with flashing Christmas Lights to enhance the dresses.

It was a huge day in the clubhouse - catering for two wakes and the whole of the upstairs area being booked out for a Christmas party tonight which meant that the Members needed to be catered for downstairs for the raffles and badge draw.

The two golfing events ran smoothly in good weather.

I did not win any golf trophies but my highlight was winning a Christmas Ham & a huge box of Christmas confectionery in the raffles which I was very happy about. The balmy evening was definitely a bonus as the weather predictions said otherwise.

Today was the first day of the Ladies Summer Competition. Unfortunately summer did not happen and we had a cool wet day so we had no takers for golf.

The Ladies Summer Competition will be on every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 7.00am. There will be no presentation after the competition and nor will there be any committee members on duty. The results may be found here on the blog or there will be a hard copy at the Pro Shop & in the Associates Room.

We were very entertained after the Christmas Luncheon with a skit by Felicity Mead and a concert by the "Jersey Boys" ( Bev Adams, Jan Fitzgerald, Fay Bailey & Robyn Johnston) and the "Angels" (Rosemary Cohen, Debbie Grinham & Lorraine Linnert).

The girls were great - looking fabulous in their outfits. They justified weeks of practice by getting the routine down pat and had their audience captured, I hope they enjoyed performing as much as we enjoyed watching.

A good sign that the day was a success was the length of time the members stayed on until late afternoon.

There was much noise & merriment by a group of the girls who won $1800 on keno during the afternoon so there was much to celebrate. (photo attached)

Tuesday 6th December 2011 - Ladies Annual Christmas Luncheon

The Gosford Girls enjoyed a wonderful Christmas Luncheon in the Sunset Room. The Members were very supportive of the day and it was good to see so much enthusiasm & good spirit in the room. We all had plenty of time for chatting and catching up with some of our Members who are no longer playing golf. It was lovely to have our Patron Berry Hanley present along with some of our older members that we do not see a lot of these days. Another welcome face enjoying the luncheon with us was our Bar Manager Wendy.

The morning commenced with Pre-Dinner drinks and nibbles in the Member's Lounge with the Annual Presentation followed by lunch in the Sunset Room.

The Social Committee did a wonderful job of decorating the room with Australian Floral Theme using gum leaves from our golf course. Wal & Fay Bailey added a modern day Christmas Tree to compliment the room.

Following lunch we were entertained by the "Jersey Boys" supported by "The Angels" in concert.

There was no ladies golf today as the 2011 Annual Ladies Presentation and Christmas Dinner was held in the Sunset Room. The day was well attended and everyone was in a festive mood.

I have got many photos to add so I am breaking the postings up into segments - starting with the Presentation of Trophies and finishing with the very popular concert that was put on by "The Jersey Boys" and "The Angels" By this time tomorrow all the photos and videos should be in place.

The Committee and Social Committee did an excellent job of organizing the day, the room looked very festive and everyone enjoyed a very nice relaxed day.

F-Troop - Monday 5th December 2011

Today was a good example of what can be achieved when we have a good turn up of volunteers.

Even though it was a cool, overcast day we still had 14 volunteers this morning which made such a difference to the volume of work we can get through. This morning we had Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher, Sam Knox, George Foster, Des Wilson, Peter Martin, Bruce White, Rob Benson, Richard Casey, Di Beechey, Jan Walker, Anne Burgess, Yvonne Wilson & Jan Martin.

We had some major jobs to get through - the first being the moving of the F-Troop container at the
Greenkeeper's Shed to create more storage room for us. Our thanks to Duncan Dyer for organising the use of a huge crane to lift the container from it's old position to fresh ground thus creating a useable space between the two containers. The crane handled the job easily with the help of a large contingent of F-Troop supervisors.

Other good jobs done by the boys today was the cleaning up of the OOB area of the path along the 18th; removing of dangerous branches overhanging the car park at the BBQ area; Mending the broken fence at the BBQ area, collecting of more mulch for the garden at the 17th; picking up of loose timber and rubbish around the course; cutting down of the large stumps at the 18th; mowed the front street lawn area.

Not to be outdone by the boys, the girls achieved a good work load - collecting gum tree leaves and some flowers from our gardens to be used for decorations for the Ladies Christmas Luncheon to be held tomorrow;
weeded the gardens at the 6th; trimmed the shrubs at the 6th; poisoned the weeds in the 6th garden and pathways; weeded the garden at the back of the 5th; the gardens at the 3rd & 5th tees; the garden at the 2nd;
trimmed the azaleas and shrubs at the 17th; cleaned up underneath the clubhouse; Yvonne Wilson fertilized the gardenias and camellias and the hydrangeas, maintained the plants under the clubhouse and gave some TLC to her adopted gardens.

We really enjoyed morning tea this morning after a hard morning's work. Thanks Chef John! Fruit pastries and bread slice fresh from the oven - Yum!

We were intending to do some more poisoning of the Paspalum grasses this afternoon but the weather closed in and rained at the worst possible time. We will try again when the weather improves.

Golf - Sunday 4th December 2011 - Christmas Gala Day

What a shocker of a day for golf! What started out as a nice day turned into a mid-winter re-run of freezing cold wind, thunder and on/off showers/rain which caught us all by surprise. I had a shower jacket with me that was not nearly enough protection. At the half way mark I was saved by Michelle McGrath offering me her warm jacket to wear for the last nine holes. My golf game improved substantially after that.

Our playing partners were Mary Bromwich and Warren Gray who both contributed well to the day. We tried hard to score well at the vital moment. Mary contributed with some great 3 pointers and Warren stormed home at the end and also scored our only birdie at the 15th.

The Golf Event of the day was a Single Stableford + Team 1 x 2 x 3 and Annual MIXED GALA DAY

We had 88 starters with 3 visitors.

Rob (Robbie) Brann - Saturday 3rd December 2011

It is with great sadness that I report that Rob (Robbie) Brann passed away this morning at 8.30 am after suffering a serious heart attack on Tuesday.

This was a huge shock to me - as it will be to all of our Members - who have been welcoming Rob back to golf after his recovery from losing his leg. Rob has recently been back and enjoying playing golf regularly.

I understand Rob's funeral will be held this coming Friday at 11.30 am. This will be confirmed when more details come to hand.

Deepest sympathy to Robin who will be in our thoughts and prayers.

We had another great weather golf day & the course is looking good. The recent heavy rain had no impact on the fairways and they dried out very quickly, the greens are in good condition and the bunkers are recovering well after their drenching. The wet weather course recovery has been amazing and it is hard to compare with the years that the course would be closed for days on end with no carts allowed.

The Golf Event of the day was a Men's Single Stableford + 2 Ball Team.

We had 197 starters with 13 visitors from Cooma, Everglades, Kareela, Kooindah Waters, Mangrove Mountain, PGA, Tamworth, Terrigal, Toukley & Wyong.
